Master of Divinity (MDiv)
Overview
The Master of Divinity degree provides holistic preparation for pastoral or other types of full-time Christian ministry. The program equips students for effective leadership through the provision of biblical and theological knowledge, professional skills, and real-world experience that centres upon congregational life or other relevant ministry settings.
Contextual Learning
In addition to specialized course work, students in this program will have the opportunity to work closely with expert leaders in ministry contexts tailored to their specific vocational interests and needs.
Degree Outcomes
The 75 credit-hour program focuses on four aspects of ministry preparation:
- Biblical and Theological Literacy – develop the capacity to interpret scripture and evaluate theological issues for effective teaching, preaching, and ministry in other settings
- Pastoral and Leadership Skills – hone the skills necessary for successful leadership and pastoral care within a local church or Christian ministry setting
- Practical Ministry Experience and Spiritual Formation – integrate biblical and theological knowledge, spiritual formation, and ministry skills within a practical ministry context
- Contextual Awareness – enhance awareness of current cultural trends and dynamics in order to facilitate effective engagement within diverse groups in the Canadian context and beyond

1 Students who already have an advanced undergraduate course in hermeneutics should choose a different elective in any area related to this degree.
2 Students who have a similar course from their undergraduate degree should choose a different elective in any area related to this degree.
3 Romans, Effective Communication in Leadership, or equivalent course. Finance, Governance and Administration or equivalent course.
4 This course is completed in conjunction with the Ministry Practicum, and the same prerequisites apply.
5 Students must complete 50% of their program before enrolling in the practicum. Prerequisite courses for the practicum are Pastoral Care & Counselling, Communicating God’s Word, and Foundations in Pastoral Theology.
6 Students must complete the Summative Assessment to complete their program and graduate. This requirement will be documented as a Pass/Fail.
