Build Your Church Hub

Everything you need to recruit the right students to train in your Church Hub!

Dear pastors and Kingdom co-labourers,

Your ministry shines a light in the darkness. Thank you for making a difference!

We have a leadership shortage. (You know the stats and live daily with the reality.) While traditional approaches to leadership development have served the church well for generations, today’s challenges require an adaptive solution.

That’s why Horizon and MCS are doing things a bit differently—and it’s working!

Let’s work together to prepare competent leaders for your church and God’s Kingdom!

How to talk about your Hub:

Emphasize the Partnership

Talk about your Church Hub as a partnership with Master’s College & Seminary or Horizon College & Seminary.

  • Make it clear: The school provides the education – your church provides the community, opportunity to serve, mentorship, and physical space.
  • Students enrol with Horizon or MCS, not with your church, even though they’ll study in your building.

Clarify the Roles

This helps avoid confusion and keep expectations realistic.

  • Your role: Support, mentor, encourage, and walk with students.
  • The school’s role: Handle admissions, academic instruction, academic support, course materials, financial aid, and credentials.

Highlight the Local Opportunity

Great for students who want to stay connected to their church, family, and local service opportunities.

  • Let people know: Students can start ministry training right here at home — without disconnecting or moving away from their church community.
  • It’s a way to stay rooted in existing relationships and familiar environments while being equipped for real-world ministry.

Keep It Warm and Personal

Share why you are excited about this and what it means for your church and the next generation.

  • Avoid heavy, formal language. Be yourself, inviting someone into something meaningful.
  • Use personal stories and testimonies when possible. They’re powerful.

Encourage Exploration

Invite curiosity and conversation, not commitment on day one.

  • This isn’t only for students who are 100% sure about becoming pastors…
  • …it’s also for those who feel a nudge toward ministry, want to grow in leadership, or are seeking their next step.

If you’re creating custom graphics or promotional materials, use only official logos and colours for Horizon or MCS.

Sample Scripts

One-on-one with students (or parents)

What to say:

  • “Have you ever considered ministry?”
  • “You don’t have to move away to get a great ministry education.”
  • “Our church is a place where you can grow, serve, and learn.”
  • “Horizon/MCS offers the degree. We offer mentorship, space, and support.”
  • Don’t pressure students — make it an invitation, not a push.
  • Don’t speak for the school — never guess about tuition, admissions decisions, etc.
  • Don’t imply that a student will be automatically accepted — remind them to apply officially.

Speaking to a large group (Sunday, youth, parent night)

What to say:

  • “Our church is proud to be a Church Hub partner with Horizon/MCS.”
  • “This means students can earn a degree right here, while staying connected to their home church.”
  • “We believe in raising up the next generation of ministry leaders — and we want to support them from day one.”
  • “If you’re interested or want to learn more, talk to me or visit the school’s website.”
  • Don’t oversell or promise things like scholarships or guaranteed jobs.
  • Don’t use insider academic language – keep it simple and relatable.
  • Don’t skip next steps – clearly state what people can do if they want to learn more.

Student Application Information

Commonly Asked Admissions Questions

Important: Students must be fully accepted by Horizon or MCS before they can register for or begin any courses.

Where can I find admissions requirements and application details?
The most up-to-date information on admissions requirements and the application process is available on our websites:

Please ensure that students and their families have reviewed all relevant admissions criteria, including:

  • Christian life and character expectations
  • Academic qualifications
  • Any additional program-specific requirements

What needs to be submitted with the application?
An application will not be processed until all required components have been received:

  • Application fee
  • Official transcript(s)
  • Pastoral reference
  • Character reference
  • Church Hub Student Intake Form (for Church Hub students only)

As the local pastor, you may be asked to assist with one or more of these items—especially the Pastoral reference and Church Hub Student Intake Form.

When should students apply?
To allow enough time for processing, registration, and course prep, encourage students to apply by the following suggested timelines:

  • For a Fall start – Apply by July
  • For a Winter start (January) – Apply by early December
  • If applying later: All materials must be submitted at least 3 weeks before the term or course begins.

This allows time for:

  • Application review
  • Course registration
  • Ordering textbooks
  • Completing any required pre-course reading or assignments

Should students apply to Horizon or MCS?

Horizon and MCS share nearly identical undergraduate programs and students are welcome to apply to whichever school they wish, but applications typically follow a different pattern depending on where they live and whether they’re in a church with the PAOC (Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada) or a different church denomination.

PAOC students living in Ontario and east of Ontario typically apply to MCS, and PAOC students in Saskatchewan or Manitoba typically apply to Horizon.

Students with the Alliance, Church of God (Cleveland), Mennonite Brethren, Redeemed Christian Church of God, and other church denominations are mostly served through Horizon.

Although the program content for Horizon and MCS are the same, each school offers different undergraduate degree designations based on the province they operate in. Students graduating from Horizon can graduate with a B.A. or B.Th. designation whereas students graduating from MCS will graduate with the B.Th. or B.R.E. designation. Students studying anywhere can choose which school and degree designation they prefer!
